Should I run plugin and theme updates on my site?
RadiateWP has a background process set up for most plugins and themes that are updated continually. If a plugin or theme has a history of causing issues with updates, it may require some extra hand-holding, where we turn off automatic updates and handle it manually, and do update on that plugin/theme less frequently. This is usually on a temporary basis. After a time of no issues during updates, we can revert the site back to the standard background updating process.
While plugins auto-update daily, our team completes any manual updates for you based on a schedule that matches your plan:
- Starter/Maintain Plan: Designed for low-maintenance sites that do not have a lot of high-risk plugins to monitor. Manual updates are conducted at least once every 6 months.
- Professional/ Grow Plan: Designed for more complex sites that have more plugins that require testing and manual updates. Manual updates are conducted at least once every month.
- Premium (Support and Team) Plans: Designed for sites that require ongoing support and a higher level of attention. Manual updates are conducted at least once every month.
If you would like to update your plugins and themes outside of the standard schedule, you are free to do that. It is important for you to complete a backup of your site using the WPEngine portal prior to updating your site manually. If you do not have WP Engine portal access, let us know and we can make sure that you are set up with an account to your portal.
