Modify the links in the main Menu

Modify the links in the Main Menu

  1. Click Appearance / Menus in the left menu of the dashboard. The Menus tool has two columns. Across the top of the right column, see the names of existing menus. If there is more than one, select the one you wish to edit, and you'll see the list of links in the selected menu in the right column.
  2. Arrange Links: Click and drag links to rearrange them.
  3. Drop-Downs: Drag a link to the right to make it a drop-down of the link above it.
  4. Add Links: In the left column of the Menus too, there are 3 ways to add links to the menus.
    1. Add Links to Pages: Find the list of Pages in the left column of the Menus tool. Click View All at the top of that box if you don't see a page that you are looking for. Check off any pages you wish to add to the menu and click Add to Menu.
    2. Add Links to Categories: Below Pages, find a list of Categories -- check off any of these and click Add to Menu.
    3. Add Custom Links: Above Pages, find Custom Links. If you wish to link to a specific post or to a page outside of your site, enter the URL and the label (the text you want to appear in the Menu for that link). Click Add to Menu. You can also create a custom link for the Home page if it does not already exist.
  5. To change the text displayed for any link in the menu, click the down arrow for that link to expand. Change the text in the Navigation Label field.
  6. At top of the right column, notice the checkbox "Automatically add new top-level pages." Having this checked means that when you add new pages, they will automatically appear in the menu. If it is unchecked, you would come back to this tool anytime you want to add a new page to the menu.
  7. When the menu is ready, click Save Menu
